Description
This Associate Attorney or Senior Associate position will report directly to the Managing Partner of Evictions and the firm’s National Eviction Outsourcing Platform. The attorney will work alongside the evictions’ support staff and carry their own caseload across the State of California. The ideal candidate has been licensed in California for close to - or more than – five years – and is comfortable with Court hearings and motion practice. Experience with jury trials and additional licensing in Oregon and Washington is a significant plus. Other candidates with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Plaintiff or Defense-Side eviction law, or other related experience representing landlords, tenants, creditors and/or loan servicers are encouraged to apply for consideration.
In this position you will need to possess the willingness to work in a team as well as the ability to be self-driven and work independently whenever needed. You will need to proactively stay abreast of the laws, ordinances, and general legal landscape affecting landlord and tenants’ rights in the State of California (and additional states of licensure, if applicable). The individual in this role must take ownership of their assignment and work product. Direct communication with clients is expected and required. Respect, teamwork and communication are essential in making our practice successful and our work lives as enjoyable as possible.
Upper salary range negotiable for the right candidate.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Handle all aspects of eviction cases in California (and possibly Oregon and Washington).
Attend court hearings (when practical due to geographical location or remote/virtual hearing capabilities) on eviction cases in California (and possibly Oregon and Washington).
Prepare and review documentation required to be filed for eviction cases in California (and possibly Oregon and Washington).
Must have strong writing skills and ability to draft civil litigation documents ranging from discovery to dispositive motions and client correspondence.
Functional/applicable knowledge of Rent Control or Stabilization Ordinances and Just Cause Ordinances, with desire to become an expert thereon.
Jury Trial experience, a plus.
Ability to think on your feet and quickly shift task-to-task depending on daily needs.
Field questions from staff and assistants in an affable manner.
Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, alerts, bulletins, articles for client notification and compliance purposes.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job does not require the direct exercise of supervisory responsibilities; however, you are expected to manage a caseload in conjunction with assigned staff as the responsible attorney.
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, particularly with respect to landlord/tenant rights. Ability to analyze case law and provide recommendations.
Requires active membership in the CA State Bar, in good standing (active membership in the OR or WA States Bars, a bonus).
Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.
Minimum of 2+ years of related experience in the landlord/tenant evictions, post-foreclosure evictions, or legal aid in defense of tenants with willingness to vigorously represent landlords is preferred; 5 years or more is considered a strong plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Normal office working conditions, remote work is possible. The noise level in the office work environment is quiet to moderate.

Requirements
Licensed to practice law in the State of California; Oregon and Washington Bar licenses a plus.
Aptitude in the courtroom, strong motion practice, and discovery experience.
Ability to comfortable handle a jury trial a bonus.
